BLACK MASS is one of those gangster flicks Hollywood loves to dole out, featuring A-list stars, and in this instance Johnny Depp yet again walks on the wrong side of the law (remember him as "John Dillinger" in Michael Mann's 2009 "Public Enemies"? And "Donnie Brasco" technically don't count… heh) in this period chronicle of a brutal man who evaded law by being an "informant" for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

I had a hard time sitting through this flick, not because the pacing was slow and plot insipid, but because the "inevitability" of it all overwhelmed whatever had transpired in the journey to the final credits, of a criminal of little repute (least of all to this Chinese dude on the other side of the world), in a Western world beseeched of crime and brutality, I had become numb to the inanity of such proceedings … but that's just me.

Overrated, but not too severely. Not at all recommended though, even for folks interested in gangsta flicks. I am grateful I watched it online and not paid cash money to watch this in the cinema. Alas even with a busted earphone (one sided audio) I was not phased … I shall offer zero boxes of popcorn for the ratings of this feature film. Moving on.
